St Martin's Day in Portugal

Saomartinho

Today is St Martin's day and while we are here in Lisbon eating roasted chestnuts, we want you to learn something about his legend and, why not, a few new words in Portuguese!

Nesse momento, o temporal amainou e as nuvens desapareceram.

St. Martin's legend (English version)

St.Martin was a roman soldier. One day, he was going from Italy to France on his horse. It was a very cold day and he had is cloak on. Suddenly, he saw a beggar and decided to cut his cloak in half to share it with the man. All of a sudden, the storm quelled and the clouds disappeared. This is why, when weather gets better during this time of the year, we use to say it is "St. Martin's Summer".

FELIZ DIA DE SÃO MARTINHO!
